Support locally owned and independent book stores and honor your loved ones!

November 29, 2026 would have been Makenna’s 29th Birthday. In her honor, and in alignment with Small Business Saturday, we'll be supporting our beloved, locally owned and independent book stores.

We will be collecting book donations at these amazing small businesses November 27-29, stop in to one of these stores and donate a book to enter to win a $25 gift certificate! (No purchase necessary)

An option to label donated books with a custom memorial sticker honoring your loved one will be available at each location.

*This site will be collecting new and gently-loved books and although Darrell’s doesn’t sell books, they have a Little Free Library out front where you can also pick up your next read!

(Please note that we cannot accept textbooks, magazines, or religious materials as most Little Free Libraries do not allow these donations)

Donate a Book, Continue the Story

Makenna Serene Morse (1997-2024), aka Ms. Morse, was an educator, a poet, and a book lover.

Makenna’s Books is collecting book donations for Little Free Libraries across Michigan in memory of the literary fans who are no longer with us.

Continue your loved one’s story by donating a book in their honor, or in honor of Makenna.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Donate a book from Bookshop.org or Amazon.com

  2. IMPORTANT: Please “Add a Gift Message” at checkout to include your name, and the name of the individual you are honoring. If you wish to remain anonymous, please include this in your message as well. We would also love for you to share a note about your loved one and let us know who they were; their story matters!

  3. The book will be labeled with a custom memorial sticker honoring your loved one and donated to a Little Free Library in MI and beyond.

*We are also happy to arrange a pickup of gently loved books in the Greater Lansing, MI area. Please contact us to schedule.
